OET Course Overview
OET Listening
OET Listening – total questions: 42 items, audio time: 40 minutes approx.
- Part A – consultation extracts (about 5 minutes each)
- Part B – short workplace extracts (about 1 minute each)
- Part C – presentation extracts (about 5 minutes each)
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN ON OET LISTENING?
You will be trained on ‘do’s and don’t’ of the test, and how to listen for specific details to achieve your desired ‘Grade’. The following areas will be the main focus of the OET listening:
- Common errors on OET listening.
- OET listening questions.
- Become comfortable with accents.
- Listen for specific details.
OET Speaking
OET Speaking – delivered individually, time: 20 minutes approximately.
In each Speaking test, your identity and profession are checked by the interlocutor and there is a short warm-up conversation about your professional background. Then the roleplays are introduced one by one and you have three minutes to prepare for each. The role-play takes about five minutes each.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN ON OET SPEAKING?
The focus of the training will be on OET speaking assessment parameters i.e
- Linguistic Criteria: Intelligibility, Fluency, Appropriateness of Language, Resources of Grammar and Expression.
- Clinical Communication Criteria: Relationship-building, Understanding and incorporating the patient’s perspective, Providing structure, Information-gathering, Information-giving.
OET speaking roleplays will be conducted during the training along with feedback, so you feel more confident on the test day and finally achieve your target OET Grade.
OET Reading
OET Reading – total questions: 42 items, time: 60 minutes
- Part A – expeditious reading task (15 minutes)
- Part B and Part C – careful reading tasks (45 minutes)
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN ON OET READING?
You will familiarise yourself with the types of questions on OET reading. In the OET training, different techniques will be discussed to quickly solve OET reading parts. The following areas will be the major focus of the OET reading:
- Question types on reading parts.
- Reading techniques of Part A, B & C.
- Skimming vs Scanning.
OET Writing
OET Writing – letter writing, time: 45 minutes, 180-200 words.
- Along with the task instructions, you will receive the stimulus material (case notes and/or other related documentation) which includes information to use in your response.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN ON OET WRITING?
The main focus of the training will be on OET writing assessment criteria. You will learn how to write a clear purpose of the referral letter, letter of transfer, letter of discharge, letter to advise or inform a patient with relevant ideas within the stipulated time. Other components include content, conciseness and clarity, genre and style, organization and layout, language. To track your performance on writing, unlimited evaluation and feedback will also be provided throughout the training.

The Occupational English Test is a test developed to assess the language proficiency of healthcare professionals who wants to study or work in an English-speaking country.
We provide effective coaching in four areas such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
The OET reading examination comprises three parts with 42 questions to answer. The time allocated to complete all the reading parts is 60 minutes.
OET Reading Part A assesses the candidates’ ability to locate a piece of information from 4 mini texts.
OET Reading Part B assesses the candidate’s ability to identify the core message or gist of 6 core texts.
OET Reading Part C assesses the candidate’s ability to examine the detailed concept of 2 long texts on healthcare topics.
The OET writing test is customized and profession-specific. The writing task will be based on a typical workplace situation and will vary from profession to profession. The overall duration to complete the OET writing examination is 45 minutes. Purpose, content, conscience & clarity, organisation & layout, Genre&style and language.
The OET listening comprises 3 parts with 42 questions to answer. All questions are derived from the general health care topics. The total duration of the listening test is about 40 minutes which includes, recorded speeches and pauses to permit adequate time to complete the answer.
The Listening Part A assesses the candidate’s ability to curate a specific piece of information during a consultation between a health care professional and a patient.
The Listening Part B assesses the candidate’s ability to extract the gist, purpose, or opinion from workplace conversation.
The Listening Part C assesses the candidate’s ability to understand a recorded interview or presentation on a health topic.
The OET speaking test uses customized materials for each profession. Here candidates will take up the professional role and the interlocutor plays the role of either a client, patient, or relative. Intelligibility, Fluency, Appropriateness of Language, Resources of Grammar and Expression, Relationship-building, Understanding and incorporating the patient’s perspective, Providing structure, Information-gathering, Information-giving.
The OET test dates are available every month.
